WASHINGTON (Dow Jones) – The U.S. service providers have their Business activity expanded more than expected in March. The weighted aggregate index from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) for the Business activity in the non-manufacturing in the U.S. increased in the March to 55.4 points, such as the ISM announced on Monday. Dow Jones Economists polled Newswires had expected a level of 53.5, after the index had been in the previous month at 53.0. Service providers make up about 80% of the U.S. economy.
As the ISM reported on, climbed the subindex for production to 60.0 (February: 54.8) and those for the New orders jumped to 62.3 (55.0). The subindex for Employment rose to 49.8 (48.6), the index for the time limits however, fell to 49.5 (53.5). The composite index is the average of these four diffusion indexes. The index of prices rose in March to 62.9 (60.4).
An index level above 50 points indicates an increase in corresponding component out, one level below that mark indicates a decline. The sub-index of production corresponds to the to December 2007 reported ISM index for the non-manufacturing Industry.
